Kihada’s success has always been paired with a deep-seated belief that giving back to the community is never an option, it’s an absolute necessity. Kihadaworks has made it a priority to support local community endeavours by sponsoring his creative services, or at the very least, spreading the word about fundraising events that benefit charities and non-profit organizations. Dreams Take Flight, a national volunteer charitable organization, has received the benefit of Rene’s support for the last 13 years, and this year the legacy of this partnership continues.

 

About Dreams Take Flight

Dreams Take Flight is in the business of making “magical memories for special kids”. Each year, the team of volunteers, supported by generous donators, local sponsors and with the special aid of an aircraft donated by Air Canada, whisk a group of children with physical, mental and emotional challenges away to experience the wonders of Disneyland.

In order for a child to be considered eligible for this unique opportunity they:

• Must be 6 – 10 years old.
• Financially be unable to experience the Magic of Disney.
• Have never been to Disneyland or any Walt Disney World Theme Park.
• Must be a Canadian citizen, and have, or be able to obtain, a valid birth certificate/passport.
• Must be able to legally enter the U.S.
• Are physically able to handle the long and extremely tiring day (approximately 20 hours).

Volunteering, Fundraising and Getting the Kids There

Throughout the year, volunteers organize fundraising events to help cover the cost of the childrens’ trip. A favourite event is the annual “Golf for Dreams” memorial tournament which creates a big draw. Even Rene was spotted putting on the green for charity this year. This year’s event brought in a whopping $10,000!

The 8th Annual Golf for Dreams, Lori Fergusson Memorial Tournament was held at The Redwoods Golf Course in Langley, B.C. Check out some great shots from this year’s events in this slideshow. Next year, this wonderful event will be held on July 12, 2012 so mark it in your calendars.

Kihada helps Dreams Take Flight!

Aside from personally attending the golf tournaments, Rene Quijada has even made the trip himself to see how crucial this experience is for the children: it brings joy and a wealth of memories they otherwise may not be able to have due to medical or social circumstances. Dreams Take Flight together with an amazing group of sponsors, help make the seemingly impossible, possible. In the 13 years that Kihada Works Design has supported the organization, they’ve raised up to $500,000 towards the cause.
